It came from the suspicion that Pinkbook's narrator and I might be of a similar vintage. It's because of the amazing ability of the sun to set gloriously even upon inglorious circumstances.Īnd I'm clearer about why I had that not-wanting-to-read-it feeling. Not that I like my mind being made up for me as a rule, though I don't like rules much either. I've wanted to read Pinkbook ever since I first heard about it, though I've not wanted to read it for all that time too, so Somebody sending it over was like my mind being made up for me by Somebody Else. The pink-covered book looks unread and I worry about creasing the spine of said pink book but I crease it anyway, and quickly. What had I thought? That it would be green? Or white? Or maybe orange? And a surprise to find the colour pink dominating the cover. Somebody gave me their copy of the Man Booker winner today because I'm down with 'flu.

From dashing hero to atrocious monster, the vampire has taken many roles and symbols through its existence on modern fiction, and another proof of the fascination it has on us is 2004's Swedish novel, "Låt Den Rätte Komma in" (literally, "Let the Right One In"), by writer John Ajvide Lindqvis. After that, the vampire has been a constant theme that lurks in horror fiction, mainly because the attractive and interesting traits of the vampire figure make it very useful to deal with a wide variety of topics. 78 years later, Bram Stoker's highly influential novel, "Dracula", would finish to integrate the vampire to modern culture. Ever since the publishing of John Polidori's "The Vampyre" in 1819, the folkloric figure of the vampire, that mythical undead being who survives by drinking blood, entered the world of modern fiction. But Brontorina is rather large too large to fit in Madame Lucille’s dance studio. It's a satisfying story that adheres closely to its central message about overcoming obstacles. Brontorina author: James Howe illustrator: Randy Cecil Brontorina has a dream. Meanwhile, asides from the kids provide a string of giggles. A rocky transition period (the studio's ceiling takes a lot of punishment) is at last resolved when Madame Lucille moves her classes outdoors, with the promise that Brontorina's struggle will open up the world of ballet to still more candidates-the studio's new sign reads, "Madame Lucille's Outdoor Dance Academy for Girls and Boys and Dinosaurs and Cows." The final page shows a triceratops holding Brontorina high, a silent retort to Madame Lucille's earlier despairing wail: "And how in the world will a male dancer ever lift you over his head?" Cecil (Gator) contributes oil paintings whose simple forms are balanced by sophisticated textures and restrained colors, while he has fun punching up the contrast between the massiveīrontorina and her tiny classmates. Howe (Bunnicula) pens a humorous and inspiring tale about a big dinosaur with a big dream: "n my heart," Brontorina says, "I am a ballerina." Thoughtful, white-haired instructor Madame Lucille is willing to give it a try. The most common description of the Pimsleur method is simply listening and repeating.
